HOW TO USE CUSTOM E-MAIL FORMATS?
By: admin
At: 26-06-2006 17:25:43
IP: (hidden)
Custom format is very simple. It just sends you whatever u have filled
in the custom form settings of your form with all the variables filled out. For example if you provide following text in your custom format:

Name = %name%
Email = %email%
Message = %message%

On form submission, you will receive a mail like:

Name = Joe Robinson
Email = joe@somewhere.com
Message = This is some message.

Also if you have enabled the HTML format you can provide something
like:

Name = %name%<br>
Email = %email%<br>
Message = %message%

All depends on your imagination and need. It can be a simple one line
e-mail or with nice HTML tables.

Thank you for the response. Is it possible to provide for a field not to be included in email if field has been left blank and is not mandatory. If so, how do you provide for this?

In the example provided in the FAQ above for instance if the Message field was left blank - you would then receive;

Name = Joe Robinson
Email = joe@somewhere.com

instead of;

Name = Joe Robinson
Email = joe@somewhere.com
Message =

Hi AKB,

I would also like to add that if the person needed the time the form was submitted, one would put this:-

%_time_%

and if one wanted the IP address of the submitter one would put this:-

%_ip_%

I had suggested this some time back and you kindly implemented these for me, very promptly I hasten to add.

Thanks for your excellent service, my plus account has been faultless over the last year and will be due for renewal on the 12th August 2006, will you be sending me a reminder?

Does the custom email format "see" line returns?

If we type it in ASCII text, exactly the way it should look ...
substituting the %tags% (field names) just like we would in
a mail merge -- is that the way it works?

I do not like the current formatting, as I have to strip out
the line rules, and verbiage "submitted to the field named ..."
and so forth.

Thanks
Fred

Yes.. it does see the new lines. It works exactly the way you have interpreted it. You can always use this feature if you don't like the current TEXT/HTML format.

I'm having problems styling text in the Custom HTML format, with CSS or just plain HTML it is not showing up when I receive the forms.

Images and table colors are showing fine, but none of the text.

All the text in the entire E-mail comes out un-styled.

How can I fix this? Thanks

Well allForms sends the HTML/TEXT as it is and only replaces the variables with their values.

My understanding is that the text area just gets sent on the body of the email.

Do you add someting like:

You have referenced the use of a number of different tags or variables throughout all of these posts.
In addition to the defined variables, which we setup in our form, is there a list of all of the other system or known tags/variables which are available to the user? For example, I realize the ones mentioned in this discussion thread, for example,
%_time_%
%_ip_%
%_browser_%
%_submit-id_%
%_country_%

Are there any more variables available?

Thanks.

No Sir there aren't any additional system variables implemented apart from the ones listed by you. But we do hear to member's requests and do work on things which can wisely implemented and would help other users too. So if there is something in your mind which should be there in our system you can post it here.

I am trying to find out what the Advanced Form Processors does. (I am a plus member.) On one of my questions, I was given a reply that "Atlernatively you can have your form (created outsite allForms) and utilize our advanced form processors to process it." I have gone through the steps in the Advance Form Processor and I do not see a place to put an outside form. The steps seem like preference settings for emails that incorporates forms created on Easy Form Creator. Is the Advanced Form Processor suppose to convert outside forms into a php format that can be stored like the Easy Forms? Are the new forms suppose to be uploaded or do we paste all of the codes on the first html box? Please clarify or provide a link that explains how the Advanced Form Processor functions. Your help on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
By: admin
At: 22-04-2009 04:15:03
IP: (hidden)
Well sir form processing involves two things: the form itself (in HTML) and the program/script (written in PHP/ASP/CGI etc) to process it. Creating forms is easy. You can use plain HTML or tools like MS Frontpage, Dreamweaver etc to create your form. For example see the below code which when saved as a file with html extension and then viewed in browser shows a simple form with a textbox and a submit button:

<form method="POST" action="http://address of script or program here">
Email: <input type="text" name="email" size="20">
<input type="submit" value="Submit" name="B1">
</form>

But the above form will not do anything as action address is a dummy one ("http://address of script or program here"). You need a proper script address there which will receive the data from form and process it and mail the results and/or store the data in a database. A "Form processor" does exactly that. Advanced form processors section creates these scripts/programs to process existing forms not hosted or created by allForms present already on your website. To link a form with a form processor, you simply have to replace the original <form...> tag with the one provided to you by form processor creation wizard.

On the other side Easy Form Creator does the job simple for you. It creates both the form and the script to process it and links them togather. But we understand that some people want to create forms on their own and let allForms do only the processing and that is what "Advanced Form Processors" section is meant for.

Hey

I have 2 small questions :

1. could we find a complete example of the code that has to be put in the custom e-mail format field ? (4th tab) ..
2. is there anyway to change the capital sensitivity ? if the form contains a field "NAME" , but you put "name" in the order of form fields (2nd tab) , the value is not retained...

thanks a lot

Sorry for this delayed reply.

1. Tell us where is your form located and we will try to provide you a example specific to your form which will help you understand the feature better.

2. Capital sensitivity of field names is not the feature specific to allForms, its a part of HTML. HTML sees "NAME" & "name" as two different form fields.

Any way I can get the current date to show up in my HTML responder email in the format of Monthname, DD, YYYY, e.g., March 6, 2011? Am guessing javaScript is not supported because it worked in my test page, but did not appear in the email.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--

var m_names = new Array("January", "February", "March",
"April", "May", "June", "July", "August", "September",
"October", "November", "December");

var d = new Date();
var curr_date = d.getDate();
var curr_month = d.getMonth();
var curr_year = d.getFullYear();
document.write(m_names[curr_month] + "&nbsp;" + curr_date + ", " + curr_year);

//-->
</script>

Trying to figure out if you have a preset code, or if I can somehow add it to a hidden input field so I can display in the responder email.

Thanks.

You can have it in the subject line but I am afraid it is not possible to customize the from header of main form mail. This is intensionally not allowed to maintain the reliable deliverability of our mail server.

No, it's set on automatic detection. Ia have also tried to insert this script in the HTML custom format:
<script type="text/javascript">decodeURI(encodeURI(%field%))</script>
but does not work, and I do not guess it will solve the problem if I set it in the web page, since the final data is sent in correct format with àòèù and other special characters.

Thank you for support; I've spotted declaring the charset both in the web page where my form is and in the script declaration (not in the .js file itself):
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
....
<script language="JavaScript" src="myJavacode.js" charset="ISO-8859-1">
<!-- --></script>
but NOT in the <form id="myForm" action=".....php" method="POST"> declaration.
Beste regards to all.
